Up for sale, a 1986 Fender American Vintage '57 reissue Precision Bass in exceptional, 100% original condition and perfect working order. An extremely rare custom color example, this bass has a very vibrant Fiesta Red gloss nitro lacquer finish. Produced in the first full year of production at the then-new Corona, CA factory, these basses were made in much smaller numbers than the current reissues, making a custom color example like this one particularly noteworthy. Discontinued and part of the famed American Vintage series, this P-Bass replicates all the physical and tonal characteristics of a genuine bass from 1957, with distinct features such as the anodized gold pickguard, alder body, one-piece maple neck and fretboard, and split-coil pickup with raised A string pole pieces for better string balance.

There's plenty of thump and rich, detailed low end on tap with this bass, and it delivers a range of classic golden era P Bass tones that are both thick and articulate. The bass speaks clearly in every register and is currently strung with roundwound 45-100 strings that add a touch of growl to the tone. Weighing in at 9lbs 7oz, the bass is extremely well balanced on a strap and has been dialed in here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with optimal intonation and action.

The maple neck has a slender C profile with fretboard edges that are nicely rolled for a very comfortable playing experience. The profile gains a bit more depth and roundness in the shoulders as you move into the higher registers of the fretboard while still staying fairly slender overall and consistent with vintage spec for 1957. The original slender frets retain their full factory height and show virtually no wear with perfect crowns. The maple fretboard is also flawless with glossy nitro lacquer that shows zero wear. The nut measures 1 3/4" in width, and the original reverse gear clover button tuners are intact and turn smoothly. The original "Precision Bass" waterslide decal is present and in perfect shape.

The body boasts all original electronics, with full size CTS pots wired to the stock pickup with the distinctive raised A pole pieces (something only seen on Fender basses from 1957-58). The stock bridge, knurled metal knobs, and black molded thumb rest are also present. The gold anodized pickguard is in fantastic shape, and provides the dual functions of keeping any extra hum from the electronics dampened and also increasing the treble response of the bass in a small, yet appreciable way. The original pencil date on the neck heel reads 12-15-86.

Cosmetically, this bass has been extremely well cared for, with only a few small marks of light use. There is light vertical lacquer checking on the body and a few finish scratches and tiny nicks, primarily on the back just south of the neck plate, but more faint that what would typically be classified "buckle rash." This instrument is a remarkably clean example that will delight discerning collectors and would also make a solid addition to any stage or studio arsenal.

The original tweed hardshell case is included and exceptionally clean, with original brown leather ends and handle and working latches.
