Up for sale, a 1981 Greco Super Real model SA-1200 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. Hailing from the most collectable (and brief) era of Greco production and the pinnacle of Fujigen design, the Super Real SA-1200 was only offered in 1980-81 and was one of the two highest-tiered catalog models in the Super Real line with a sticker price of 120,000 yen. This instrument does an exquisite job of capturing the finer points of the original 1959 ES-335, featuring a long pickguard, dot inlay on the bound genuine Brazilian rosewood fretboard, and a gloss Sunburst nitro lacquer finish.
Weighing 8lbs 5oz, the lightly figured maple body has a ‘50s-accurate maple/mahogany/maple centerblock, and the mahogany neck and bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard round out the tonewood complement. When it comes to playability, feel, and tone, the Greco instruments excel, and this guitar comes complete with its original Maxon-made "Dry-Z" humbucker in the bridge position. The neck pickup, while not original, is highly desirable in its own right as one of the earliest Seymour Duncan SH-1Bs ever wound, with its "Seymourized" baseplate sticker.
The “Dry-Z” PAF replica is the highest grade humbucker offered on any Greco, highly sought after in broader Les Paul circles for its detail and dimension, reflecting Greco's dedication to faithfully reverse-engineer Gibson's late '50s humbucker tonal properties. The bridge position sound is harmonically rich and dynamic, with plenty of definition and power. The Seymourized SH-1B in the neck position delivers warm and crystalline cleans, with fat and clear distortion characteristics. This SA-1200 has been professionally set up here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
